Butters Makes Career-High 45 Saves in Tie with No. 10 Buckeyes

11/30/2012 9:54:00 PM

Box Score Mankato, Minn. ---  Through 60 minutes of regulation time and five minutes of an overtime session, neither MSU goaltender Danielle Butters nor Ohio State netminder Chelsea Knapp let a single shot trickle by them Friday night in a Western Collegiate Hockey Assoication contest at All Seasons Arena.

Both teams received one point in the WCHA standings with the scoreless tie, but the No. 10 Buckeyes picked up an extra point as they scored a 3-1 victory in the shootout over the Mavericks.

Butters, the junior from London, Ontario, was brilliant in the net for the Mavericks stopping all 45 Buckeye shots that came her way for a new career-high, while her opponent in the OSU net, Knapp, saved 34 shots.

Ohio State’s Hokey Langan and Ally Tarr each scored on their shootout tries against backup goalie sophomore Erin Krichiver, while MSU sophomore Kathleen Rogan was stopped by Knapp on her shootout attempt. Junior Tracy McCann scored to keep the Mavericks alive, but Taylor Kuehl got the shootout-winner by Krichiver to end the shootout 3-1.

Ohio State had four shots on five power play opportunities while the Mavericks took three shots on three power play tries.

The scoreless tie marks the first for Minnesota State since a 0-0 draw with Niagara on Oct. 9, 2010.

The decision moves the Mavericks to 5-9-3 overall and 3-7-3-1 in the WCHA. The two teams meet again tomorrow at All Season Arena for a 3:07 p.m. faceoff.
