Box Score Mankato, Minn. ---  One night after a thrilling shootout win, the Minnesota State women’s hockey team was able to get the win in regulation as they shut-out perennial national power Minnesota-Duluth 1-0 Saturday afternoon at All Seasons Arena behind a third-period goal from junior Tracy McCann and 28 saves by netminder Danielle Butters.

MSU’s win marks its first regulation victory over the Bulldogs since a 3-2 win in Duluth on November 21st, 2009; a streak that reached 14 straight.

Out of a possible six points up for grabs on the weekend, the Mavericks were able to garner five in hopes of climbing up the WCHA ladder.

In a game where scoring came at a premium, the goaltending needed to step up and MSU’s junior goaltender Danielle Butters was more than up to the task. She saved 36  on Friday night and stopped 28 UMD shots today.

The game would remain scoreless until midway through the third period when Tracy McCann picked up a turnover and slipped a shot by Bulldogs’ goaltender Kayla Black right pad for the game-winning goal with 8:26 remaining.

McCann made an impression on the series by either scoring or assisting all four regulation goals and tallying the shootout-winning goal on Friday evening.

The win caps an undefeated homestand for the Mavericks (4-2-2, 2-2-1-1 in WCHA) who swept Lindenwood last weekend. They take to the road for their next three series beginning with two against Mercyhurst in Erie, PA next weekend. Their next home series is November 23-24 against Bemidji State.
