Winter Haven, Fla. — Minnesota State, ranked tenth in the nation, defeated West Chester Golden Rams Wednesday, 9-1.
The Maverick baseball squad kept things rolling after yesterday’s trouncing of Saginaw Valley, scoring three runs in the opening inning. The first inning was highlighted by a two-run homer from junior infielder Pat Dockendorf.
MSU added two more in the second, when freshman outfielder Scott Lindner doubled, then scored on a double from senior infielder Zach Rowles, who scored on a single courtesy from senior outfielder Danny Miller.
The Golden Rams scored their lone run of the contest in the second, but it was all MSU after that.
Junior infielder Matt Kuchenbecker hit a solo shot in the third, Linder hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth, Rowles hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Miller ripped an RBI triple in the eighth, giving the Mavericks the, 9-1, win.
Miller finished the contest 3-for-4 at the plate, with a triple and two RBI, while Dockendorf (two-run) and Kuchenbecker (solo) each hit bombs.
Junior right-handed pitch Blake Schwartz tossed an impressive eight innings, allowing one earned run off of four hits, walking none and striking out five. Pitching a scoreless ninth was senior lefty Trent Vedders.
MSU had 10 hits to West Chester’s four.
The Mavericks (4-4 overall) will play two games tomorrow in Winter Haven, Fla., facing Mansfield at 12:30 p.m. (EST) and St. Joes (Ind.) at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
