Wisconsin Badger Notes:
- With two goals on Nov. 25 against St. Cloud State, Hilary Knight surpassed Mark Johnson’s record of 125 career goals at Wisconsin.
- Knight also became the eighth player in NCAA Div. 1 women’s hockey history to record both 100-career goals and assists after recording an assist on Nov. 27.
- Brianna Decker broke the school’s record for longest point streak after recording two goals and one assist on Nov. 25 and two assists on Nov. 27.
- Her scoring streak currently sits at 27 games, which broke the 25-game streak set by Meghan Duggan in the 2010-11 season.
- Knight currently sits with 127 goals and 100 assists for 227 career points.
- She needs 12 more points to top Duggan as the UW career-points leader.
- Brooke Ammerman has the potential to become the third Badger in program history to record 100 career goals and the fifth Badger to reach 100 career assists.
- She needs 23 more goals and six assists to reach those plateaus.
- The Badgers continued their dominance as they posted 5-0 and 6-1 wins over WCHA opponent St. Cloud State on Nov. 25/27.
- The wins improved Wisconsin to 15-1-0 (9-1-0-0 WCHA) on the season and the Badgers remain one of two teams in the nation to have only suffered one loss so far this season.
- Last Friday night, sophomore goaltender Alex Rigsby made 19 saves to record her 10th career shutout as the Badgers went on to win 5-0.
- Brooke Ammerman recorded three assists in the contest while Brianna Decker and Hilary Knight both scored two goals, while Decker also added an assist.
- Senior Carolyne Prévost also recorded a multi-point game, notching one goal and one assist.
- The Badgers continued their offensive output on Sunday as they blazed to a 6-1 win.
- Brooke Ammerman tallied three more assists while also scoring a goal, but Wisconsin showed a bit more depth as Karley Sylvester, Katy Josephs, Stefanie McKeough and Lauren Unser all scored goals.
- The group of Prévost, Decker, Brooke Ammerman and Knight have combined for 58 goals and 65 assists this season.
- The four account for over half of the team’s point production and have scored more than two-thirds of the team’s goals so far this season
- Compared to other team’s top four scorers, they are the highest scoring group in the nation with 123 points.
- Rigsby has 375 saves on the season, which is fourth best in the nation.
- After making 55 saves against Ohio State, Rigsby took over the fourth spot on the all-time career saves list at UW.
- Of WCHA goaltenders, she has the best overall save percentage (.942).
- With 11 saves on Nov. 27 against St. Cloud State, Rigsby became the fourth Badger goaltender to
record 1,000 saves ... She’s the second goalie in school history to reach the mark within her second year of competition.
Wisconsin and MSU History:
- The all-time series sits at 1-47-2 in favor of Wisconsin in the 50 games played between the schools.
- Last season the Mavericks lost 3-2 in the first meeting, then lost 6-1, 4-0 and 9-1 against the Badgers.
-MSU’s only win against the Badgers came in the 2009-10 season, earning a 5-3 victory.
- The Mavericks scored four goals last season against UW as senior Emmi Leinonen, junior Lauren Smith, sophomore Tracy McCann and sophomore Kathleen Rogan scored the lamp-lighters.
- The Mavericks are 1-8-1 in the last ten games against Wisconsin.
- UW junior forward Brianna Decker scored five goals and seven assists in the four games against the Mavericks last season, including a hat trick on Feb. 18 at All Seasons Arena.
- Senior Badger forward Hillary Knight scored five goals and three assists in the four-game series during the 2010-11 season.
- The Badgers peppered the Mavericks 170-63 in the shots on goal category, as well as scoring six power-play goals and two short-handers in the past four games played.
- The Mavericks have been shutout in the series 17 games. Six games have been decided by one goal or less and 14 games, the teams have been within two goals or less.
- Wisconsin have beat the Mavericks by four goals or more in 24 games, including an 8-0 romp in 2008 and a 9-1 game on Feb. 19, 2011.
In the WCHA: Lauren Smith has 11 points this season and sits tied in 29th for points in the WCHA. Kari Lundberg and Emmi Leinonen have ten points and are tied in 34th currently in the WCHA. Junior Lauren Smith and sophomore Lauren Barnes are tied for 26th in the WCHA for assists (8) through the first 14 games of the season. Senior Jackie Otto is currently fifteenth in scoring for defenseman.
Leanin’ on Leinonen: Minnesota State senior Emmi Leinonen is leading the Mavericks in shots as she had blistered 48 shots. Leinonen has 305 shots in her career at MSU which puts her tied for eighth in career shots at Minnesota State. The Valkeakoski, Finland native is also tied for sixth for career power-play goals (10).
Comparing Last Year to this Time: Minnesota State was 6-9-1 after its first 16 games of the last year. MSU was outscored 32-52 at that point.
