Box Score Minneapolis, Minn.— Minnesota State (4-4-0, 0-2-0-0 WCHA) fell to the second-ranked University of Minnesota (7-1-0, 5-1-0 WCHA) Friday evening 7-0 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. The MSU loss marks the second-straight night the Mavericks lost to the Gophers.

After the first period, the Mavericks created scoring opportunities but found themselves outshot 13-11 after 20 minutes into the game.
In a period that contained an abundance of penalties, MSU was unable to convert on a 5-on-3 power-play chance just over halfway through the second period.
Minnesota went up 3-0 on its first power-play goal of the weekend as Sarah Erickson beat Altmann five-hole from five feet out at 18:35 in the second period.
The Gophers tallied three power-play goals in the third period as WCHA leading-scorer Amanda Kessel one-timed a backdoor goal from Jen Schoullis. Kelly Terry tipped slapper from the point for the second power-play goal. Minnesota’s Megan Bozek added a third power-play goal of the period at 10:55.
Minnesota put its final goal of the game in at 12:04 of the third as Sarah Erickson scored upper shelf on Minnesota State.
The Gophers finished 4-of-7 on the power-play as the Mavericks were 0-of-3. Minnesota outshot MSU 35-19 in the series finale at Ridder Arena.
Minnesota State (4-4-0, 0-2-0-0) returns home next weekend for a two-game series as Ohio State comes to town. Friday’s game is slated for 7:07 p.m., at All Season Arena.
