Minneapolis, Minn. ---  Minnesota State swept a nonconference doubleheader from UW-Parkside Saturday in a pair of games played at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

After scoring single runs in each of the first three innings, the Mavericks plated two runs with two out in the fourth. Mike Eckhart struckout but UWP catcher Kirk Haviland couldn't corral the pitch. His throw to first hit Eckhart in the head, allowing the MSU runner to reach base. The Rangers responded with a four-run third inning to cut the lead to one as back-to-back doubles by Tyler Gieseking and Dave Watson ignited the rally.

Minnesota State put the game away in the fourth inning with another four-run rally. A two-run double by Hattori and Josh Simon's two-run single accounted for the runs.

Bret Mitchell evened his record at 1-1 on the season by scattering seven hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out six before giving way to Eugene Sturm and Luke Putz, who each worked an inning of scoreless relief.
