The Mavericks claimed a 7-4 win in the first game before dropping a 10-8 decision in the night cap.
MSU outhit the Cougars by an 11-7 margin in the first game en route to the 7-4 victory. Chipping in with two hits each in the victory were Zach Rowles, Ben Kincaid, Danny Miller and Aaron Berner. Senior righthanded starter Patrick Lenton, who fanned eight Colorado Christian batters and gave up one earned run while giving up three hits in six innings, was credited with the win. Junior Luke Putz got the last two outs of the game in earning is first career save.
The Mavericks held a 8-7 lead before giving up three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in dropping the 10-8 decision. Aaron Berner, a junior outfielder, was two-for-three in the game for MSU and junior catcher Steven Helget contributed a three-run double. Junior Bret Mitchell, who gave up six earned runs and struck out six batters in four innings, took the loss.
The Mavericks (1-1) are scheduled to play the Cougars twice Saturday.
