Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team used seven first-place finishes – including a pair by junior Kristin Hayes en route to a 128-115 victory over Northern Iowa Friday night in the Highland Pool on the campus of Minnesota State University. The win marked Minnesota State's third straight victory over the Panthers.
The Mavericks opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as senior Angela Krych, sophomore Kaitlin Ogden, freshman Tabetha Temperley and junior Kim Christensen turned in a time of 1:49.33.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Hayes swam to a 1:57.41finish, out-touching her nearest opponent by more than a second and a half. Hayes also won the 100-yard freestyle in :54.73.
Joining Hayes as individual winners included Temperley who won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.97. Krych won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.40, finishing :02.68 ahead of sophomore teammate Adrienne Vida. Freshman Alyssa Kuffel won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.33. Christensen earned a victory in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in :24.82.
On the diving board, junior Janel Duffy finished second in the three-meter dive with a score of 213.65 and the one-meter dive, turning in a score of 228.70.
Minnesota State travels to Minnesota Challenge next weekend. It is a two-day, swimming only event.
