Kafka Garners ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region First Team Honors
Bresnahan, Lenton and Glynn Named Second Team


Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State senior pitcher Nathan Kafka (Denmark, Wis.) has been named 2009 ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Central Region.

Kafka finished the year with a 6-2 record and in 24 appearances totalled 33.2 innings, 35 strikeouts, seven walks and a team-high six saves. Kafka, whose 24 appearances rank third on MSU’s all-time single-season list, led the Mavericks with a 3.21 earned run average. Earlier this year Kafka also picked up All-NSIC First Team and Daktronics Second Team All-Region honors.

Three Mavericks were named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region Second Team in senior second baseman Jay Bresnahan (Edina, Minn.), senior third baseman Geno Glynn (Waseca, Minn.) and junior pitcher Patrick Lenton ( Maple Grove, Minn.).

Bresnahan led the Mavericks in batting (.380), on base percentage (.484), runs scored (58), and walks (35). He completes his career with 202 hits, which ranks second all-time at MSU. Earlier this year Bresnahan also picked up All-NSIC First Team and Daktronics Second Team All-Region honors.

Glynn completed his senior season with a .376 batting average (third on the team), eight home runs (second on the team) and a team-leading 58 runs batted in. His 58 RBI rank second on MSU’s all-time single-season list. Earlier this year Glynn also picked up All-NSIC Second Team honors.

Lenton fashioned a 9-2 record in 2009 with a 5.42 earned run average. He appeared in 14 games, starting 13 and working a team-high four complete games. Also named All-NSIC First Team and Daktronics First Team All-Region this season, Lenton led the Mavericks with 78.0 innings pitched and struck out 68 batters.

MSU, which captured the 2009 Northern Sun Intercollegiate tournament title and earned a bid to the 2009 NCAA tournament, finished the year with a 38-17 record.
