WAYNE, Neb. --- The Minnesota State women's golf team wrapped up the first round of the Wildcat Classic in first place Monday.
The two-round Wildcat Classic is being held at the par-72 Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb. A total of 15 teams are competing in the events, with Minnesota State leading the team standings at 297 (+9) after round one. Wayne State finished round one in second place shooting a 304 (+16).
"I'm really happy with how the girls battled today," head coach
Alex Schmitz said. "It's fun to see red numbers in the scorecards. This is the team we know that can compete deep in the postseason."
Sophomore
Emerson Garlie finished round one in first place as she shot a 71 (-1) with four birdies. Senior
Samantha Youngquist followed in second place with a 72 (E) as she notched one birdie and 16 pars.
Junior
Victoria Woytassek finished the round in 11th place as she shot a 76 (+4), which included two birdies. Junior
Lauren Brown recorded a 78 (+6) and notched one of the three eagles on the day, while junior
Lauryn Keller shot an 85 (+13).
Competing independently, senior
Ava Olson finished the round in fourth place with a 75 (+3). Freshman
Karalyn Skinner also shot a 78 (+6) like Brown, while junior
Emma Berge posted an 83 (+11).
