VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Minnesota State closed competition Saturday at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at Virginia Beach Sports Center. MSU women's track and field scored 32 points to finish fifth in the nation. It was the sixth straight season finishing inside the top five for the Mavericks. Men's track and field scored 23 team points to finish sixth in the nation, the team's 12
th top-10 finish since 1988.
Miranda Lauvstad became the third Maverick in program history to win a national title in long jump on Friday as Minnesota State concluded day one. Then on Saturday, Lauvstad took second place in pentathlon. Her score of 4,348 was also third all-time in Division II history. Esther Conde-Turpin (West Texas A&M) topped the podium with a score of 4,406. Both of Lauvstad's results set Minnesota State all-time program records.
Junior
Sheldon McNicholas placed 13
th in men's triple jump with a mark of 14.73m (48-4). Sophomore
Hayden Bills took in First Team All-America for men's shot put with a sixth-place finish and a mark of 18.20m (59-8.5) on attempts three and four.

Ghada Hamdani and senior
Lillian Washington were first-team All-Americans in triple jump. Hamdani placed fourth after landing at 12.56m (41-2.5) and Washington took fifth at 12.55m (41.2.25).
In the men's 60 meter hurdles final, senior
Rinaldo Moore crossed the line fourth with a time of 7.82 seconds (First Team All-America). Senior
Ashanti Harvey also cemented All-America status by finishing eighth in women's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.46.
In men's 60 meter dash finals, senior
Keshaun Black finished eighth for the Mavericks with a time of 6.72. Black set an MSU record in prelims on Friday with a time of 6.62
The men's 4x400 meter relay team included

Kenjuan Hampton,
Tyrel Robinson and
Qai Hussey The group ran a combined time of 3:09.39, good for third place and First Team All-America. It also set a new Minnesota State program record.
"It was a great weekend for both of our teams," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "I was really proud of our effort all season long, and the results showed at the Championships. Historic performance for Miranda and an excellent day for her with multiple school records."

Day 1 Recap
Miranda Lauvstad became the third Maverick in program history to win a national title in long jump on Friday as Minnesota State concluded day one at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Lauvstad, a senior from Nesoeya, Norway, posted a mark of 6.34m (20-9.75) on both her fifth and sixth attempts to finish ahead of Denise Hernandez (Lewis), who jumped 6.18m (20-3.5) on her first attempt. Lauvstad was also an All-American last year in the event, when she finished fourth. This year, her mark topped previous MSU national champions
Makayla Jackson (2022, 20-4.25) and
Adeyah Brewster (2025, 20-9.25).
Two more Mavericks also impressed in the long jump.
Dorcus Opoku placed eighth (5.97m, 19-7) and
Jordin McGee took 10
th (5.97m, 19-1.5). Sophomore
Aubri Brown placed sixth in women's weight throw with a toss of 19.45m (63-9.75) on her third attempt (first team All-America).
Junior Terrence Thomas landed third in men's long jump with a mark of 7.42m (24-4.25) for the Mavericks on his second attempt (first team All-America).
Blake Wakeling placed seventh in pole vault to cement All-America status at a height of 5.16m (16-11).
Minnesota State men's track and field scored eight points and are currently tied for ninth in the team standings with five of 17 events scored. Minnesota State women's track and field scored 14 points and are currently third in the team standings with five events scored.
Event Prelims
Keshaun Black set a new Minnesota State indoor record of 6.62 seconds to qualify second in men's 60 meter dash prelims. Black topped Emmanuel Matadi's time of 6.66, set in 2015 at the MSU Open as well as his own mark of 6.65 from the Frank Sevigne Invitational on Feb. 6-7.
Rinaldo Moore placed fourth in men's 60 meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 7.86 (second in heat two).
Keaton Wattier (second team All-America) placed 11
th (8.01) in the same event. In women's 60 meter hurdles,
Ashanti Harvey will be moving on after the senior placed sixth overall with a time of 8.41. Teammate

th (8.53, second team All-America) and
Esaba Okwaramoi placed 16
th (8.69).
