BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Minnesota State freshman
Mercury Bischoff (Cohasset, Minn.) was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week on Monday (Feb. 23). Bischoff helped the Mavericks to a pair of WCHA wins at St. Thomas over the weekend, totaling two goals and two assists with nine shots on goal and three blocked shots.
On Friday, Bischoff's unassisted goal at 3:51 of the third period was the eventual game-winner in a 5-2 final score. Bischoff's even strength goal in the third period of Saturday's win was her 19
th of the year, setting a Minnesota State record for goals in a season by a freshman (18, Michelle Sikich, 1998-99).
Bischoff leads the Mavericks with 29 points, including two power play goals and two game-winning goals. Her 19 goals ranks seventh in the WCHA. She also was named WCHA Rookie of the Week on Nov. 24 and Feb. 9.
The No. 14 ranked Mavericks are the No. 5 seed in WCHA quarterfinals and travel to play fourth seeded Minnesota Duluth, ranked No. 9 in the nation. The series is best two out of three games beginning on Friday, February 27 at 2 p.m. CT at AMSOIL Arena. MSU is 0-3-1 against the Bulldogs this year.
