BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Minnesota State senior midfielder Anna Van Wyngarden has been named the NSIC defensive player of the week following her standout performances against Central Oklahoma and No. 13 Central Missouri.
Van Wyngarden anchored the Maverick defense that posted back-to-back shutouts, playing all but three minutes across the two matches. She helped limit both opponents to just three shots on goal combined, while also making her presence felt offensively. The senior registered four shots on the weekend, including two on goal, and delivered the decisive moment in Sunday's match against Central Missouri, burying a 76th-minute penalty kick for the game-winning goal.
The Mavericks return to action Friday as they travel to Michigan to take on Grand Valley State at 6 p.m.
