MANKATO, Minn. – The #3 Minnesota State Mavericks open the 2025 season at The Pitch, beginning Friday at 3 p.m. against Central Oklahoma, followed by a Sunday matchup with #13 Central Missouri at 3 p.m. In addition, The Pitch will also host two neutral-site games as Augustana faces Central Missouri on Friday at 12 p.m. and Central Oklahoma on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Mavericks return plenty of firepower, led by junior
Maddix Archer (Brookings, S.D.) and senior
Addison Clarey (Rochester, Minn.), who tied for the team lead with nine goals apiece last season. Another key player is sophomore
Marin Johnson (Delano, Minn.), who delivered the decisive goal that sent Minnesota State to the national championship game.
Between the posts,
Lauren McAlpine (Shoreview, Minn.) returns after appearing in nine games last season, highlighted by her penalty shootout heroics against Grand Valley State in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals.
Facing Central Oklahoma: Against Central Oklahoma, Minnesota State holds a 3-2 overall edge. The teams last met in 2022 in Joplin, Mo., where the Bronchos claimed a 1-0 victory.
Scouting the Bronchos: Central Oklahoma closed last year at 12-7-4 overall and 7-2-3 in conference play, reaching the NCAA Central Regional second round before falling to Central Missouri. The Bronchos were led by graduate student Rebekah George, who scored 10 goals with three assists, while goalkeeper Avery Bass posted a .827 save percentage and a 1.02 goals-against average.
Facing Central Missouri: The Mavericks are 8-11-2 all-time against Central Missouri but earned a dramatic 1-0 double-overtime win over the Jennies last season to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight
. Avery Korsching netted the golden goal in the 105th minute.
Scouting the Jennies: Central Missouri finished 17-5-2 overall and 9-2-1 in league play, advancing to the Central Region Championship before falling to Minnesota State. The Jennies were led by Ashleigh Martin, who tallied 10 goals and six assists, while sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Wright handled most of the work in net.
