MARSHALL, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's golf team took first place at the SMSU Fall Invite Sunday afternoon.
MSU finished the two-round invite with a score of 305-302—607 (+31). The MSU "B" team, Minnesota Crookston and Chadron followed in second place at +48. The Maverick "B" team posted scores of 310-314—624.
"We had another really good showing by our women," head coach
Alex Schmitz said. "We got better by keeping the big numbers off the scorecards today. They are continuing to put in the work and it is paying off!
"Being able to consistently rely on Tori and Emerson has been fun to start the year."
Sophomore
Emerson Garlie led the field as she turned in a 75 today to finish the invite at +2. Garlie notched four birdies during her second round.
Junior
Victoria Woytassek followed Garlie in second place as she shot a 74 today to finish +6 on the weekend. Woytassek recorded two birdies in her final round. Senior
Samantha Youngquist shot a 73 in round two to finish her weekend in fourth place at +8. In total, Youngquist recorded 32 pars during her two rounds.
Senior
Ava Olson notched an 82 to finish in 26th at +17, while sophomore
Mila Jenniges followed in 32nd place at +32. Olson and Jenniges each tallied one birdie during their second round.
Sophomore
Aly Blomberg led the way for the Maverick "B" team as she shot a 78 today, to finish the event in eight place at +10. Blomberg recorded three birdies during her second round. Senior
Lauren Rebrovich followed in 16th place at +12, with junior
Lauryn Keller finishing in 19th place at +14. Freshman
Karalyn Skinner finished in 22nd at +15 also, while junior
Lauren Brown took 36th place at +20.
Juniors
Emma Berge and Whitney
Mullenbach each competed independently also. Berge finished in eight place at +10, while Mullenbach followed one stroke back in 13th place at +11.
Minnesota State continues its season on Oct. 6-7 as it travels to Edmond, Okla., to take part in the Grace Shin Invite at the Golf Club of Edmond.
