Mavericks Capture Drake Relays and Drake Alternative Titles

DES MOINES, Iowa – Minnesota State men's and women's track and field both repeated for the third straight season as Drake Relays HyVee Cup Champions after posting impressive results at the Big Blue Oval.
 
The Drake Relays Cup is awarded to the school that scores the most points in the 4x100, 4x400, 4x800, sprint medley, and distance medley relay teams.
 
Top performances included wins in the men's 4x100 meter relay, women's 4x100 meter relay, men's sprint medley, women's sprint medley and women's 4x400 meter relay. The Mavericks also placed second in men's shuttle hurdle relay (school record) and women's shuttle hurdle relay (school record), with a third place showing in men's 4x800 meter relay.
 
For MSU student-athletes competing at the Drake Alternative meet hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, the MSU men's team took first in a seven-team field while the women placed first among six opponents.
 
DRAKE RELAYS
Legs of the men's 4x100m relay were run by D'Eric Smith, Kemarri Stewart, Samuel Eben Ebai and Richlu Tudee. The team ran to fourth place in the first round Friday with a time of 41.17.
 
Minnesota State's women's 4x100 meter relay team included Adeyah Brewster, Makayla Jackson, Robynn Rolle-Curry and Ally Hammond and the team ran the race in 45.98, good for first place in the first round.
 
Brewster also ran a time of 13.36 in 100 meter hurdles in Friday's first round for second place.
 
Women's 4x400 meter relay first round included Brianna Shroyer, Elizabeth Schmidt, Viktoriia Ermolaeva and Miranda Lauvstad. MSU took first in 3:46.83.
 
Minnesota State's sprint medley final resulted in first place, with Jackson, Grace Obour, Rolle-Curry and Isabela Shepard each helping to post a time of 4:00.86. On the men's side, it was Tudee, Marvin Dure, Qai Hussey and Kaleb Foltz atop the podium with a time of 3:23.14
 
With more finals on Saturday, Minnesota State continued to excel. Women's distance medley took second place with Makayla Bishop, Elizabeth Schmidt, Shepard and Ashley Overgaauw (12:01.07).
 
Men's 4x110m shuttle hurdles consisted of second place Jalen McGee, Keaton Watter, Owen Petersohn and Jonah McCormick (58.06).
 
Brewster finished off 100m hurdles with a finals fifth place time of 13.58, behind four Division I sprinters from University of Kentucky and Indiana State.
 
Brewster, Lauvstad, Hammond and Norah D'Almeida posted a first place 4x100 meter relay finals time of 45.51. Smith, Stewart, Eben Ebai and Tudee did likewise in 4x100 meter relay with a winning time of 40.07.
 
Shroyer, Schmidt, Ermolaeva and Lauvstad closed out 4x400 meter relay in first with a time of 3:43.28.

MSU outdoor track and field season continues April 30 when it hosts the Maverick Open #1 at the Mark Schuck Outdoor Track & Field Complex on campus at 1 p.m.
