Mavericks in Front After Day Two of NSIC Championships

DULUTH, Minn. --- The men's and women's track and field teams have wrapped up day two of the NSIC Championships in first place Friday.

The NSIC Championships conclude on Saturday.

Women

Through seven events, the Mavericks sit in first place in the team standings with 65 points. UMary is in second place with 48 points, with Wayne State following in third with 32.5 points.

Aubri Brown won the hammer throw event with a throw of 53.67m (176-1). Emma Osier took seventh place in the hammer throw event as well with a toss of 49.02m (160-10). Brown also took third place in the shop out event with a throw of 13.87m (45-6.25).

Lilian Washington won the high jump event with a jump of 1.69m (5-6.5).

Miranda Lauvstad took first place in the long jump event with a jump of 6.11m (20-0.5). She was followed by her teammate Dorcus Opoku who finished second with a jump of 5.96m (19-6.75).

Amanda Overgaauw led the way for the Mavericks in the 10,000m event as she finished in sixth place with a time of 37:17.42. Sophie Baker took 11th place in the event with a time of 38:33.64 as well.

Madison Matzek took third place in the 3,000m steeplechase as she recorded a time of 11:07.99 that ranks 74th in Division II this season. Tara Hertling took sixth place with a time of 11:11.96, with Mileena Sullivan following in seventh place with a time of 11:14.34.

Alexa Post finished in seventh place in the heptathlon event with 4,318 points as she took eighth place in the 800m (2:35.25), ninth place in the javelin (27.31m, 98-7) and 11th place in the high jump (1.45m, 4-9).

The 100m prelims saw Norah D'almeida qualify for the finals with a time of 11.77. In the prelims of the 100m hurdles, Esaba Okwaramoi (13.87) and Lauvstad (14.32) took second and third place, respectively, to advance to the finals.

The 200m prelims had D'almeida finish in fifth with a time of 24.47 and Grace Obour finish seventh with a time of 24.76. Lauvstad and Grace Hambel qualified for the finals of the 400m as well as they posted times of 55.90 and 57.09 in the prelims as well.
 
Men

Through eight events, the Mavericks sit in first place in the team standings with 89 points. Concordia-St. Paul is in second place with 39 points, with Northern State following in third with 37.5 points.

Braxton Stewart took first place in the decathlon with a score of 6,859 points. Jonah McCormick took seventh place with 5,773 points, with Tanguy Krzepisz following in eighth with 5,300 points. Stewart won both the discus (39.69m, 130-2) and javelin (46.04m, 151-0) events, while Krzepisz won the 110m hurdles (15.15). McCormick finished in second place in the pole vault (4.02m, 13-2.25) as well.

The 10,000m event saw Jack Kendall take fourth place with a time of 31:17.50. Luis Pfister followed right behind in fifth with a time of 21:25.85, while Dominic Ripperda finished eighth with a personal best of 31:57.83.

Erek Ross led the Mavericks in the 3,000m steeplechase as he finished in third place with a time of 9:26.58.

The high jump saw Hugo Albanese finish in first place with a jump of 2.08m (6-9.75). Jalen McGee would win the long jump event also with a jump of 7.66m (25-1.75). Terrance Thomas took fourth place in the long jump as well with a jump of 7.40m (24-3.5).

Hayden Bills won the shot put event with a throw of 18.96m (62-2.5). Ben Wieser followed in fourth place with a throw of 16.78m (55-0.75).

Blake Wakeling finished second in the pole vault event with a vault of 4.82m (15-9.75). Noel Foellinger followed in fourth place with a vault of 4.67m (15-3.75).

Five Mavericks, including Rinaldo Moore (14.07), Kejuan Hampton (14.14), Jalen McGee (14.25), Keaton Wattier (14.32) and Kerdel Moses (14.33) qualified for the finals of the 110m hurdles.

A quartet of Mavericks qualified for the 200m finals including Hampton (21.12), Quinton Ellis (21.14), Qai Hussey (21.34) and Robert McGhee (21.51). Ellis and Hussey also qualified for the 400m finals with a times of 46.81 and 48.09, respectively.

The prelims of the 400m hurdles saw five Mavericks qualify for the finals including Moore (52.39), Marenono Opiew (52.49), Diego Sekiyama-Nava (52.82), Moses (52.87) and Logan Weninger (53.73).
