Men’s Track & Field Secures 14th Straight NSIC Indoor Championship

MANKATO, Minn. – No. 11 Minnesota State men's track and field won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships for the 14th consecutive year with a score of 206.5 points at Myers Field House on Saturday. The record stands as the longest winning streak in NSIC men's indoor track & field history.

The Mavericks have surpassed the second-longest championship streak in NSIC history in any sport, trailing only Minnesota State's remarkable run of 19 consecutive titles in men's outdoor track & field (1948-66).
 
Minnesota State finished well ahead of Augustana (89), UMary (79.5) and MSU Moorhead (77). MSU's Jabez Reeves was the high-point scorer for the meet.
 
TRACK
Jalen McGee placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.87 (seventh in Division II). Marvin Dure finished fourth in 400 meters with a season-best time of 49.30.
 
Maquanet Collins led the Mavericks in 600 meters with his fifth place time of 1:23.60.
 
Jabez Reeves delivered a first place finish in 60 meter dash with a personal best time of 6.69 (15th in Division II). Richlu Tudee was third in the same event with a time of 6.74 (28th in Division II).
 
Paul Lins topped the charts in 800 meters with a personal record time, 1:52.65. Kaleb Foltz crossed second (1:53.95). Leif Larsen took second in 1000 meters with a season best time of 2:31.61.
 
Reeves set a venue and meet record in 200 meter finals when he cruised to victory in a time of 21.18 seconds. Tudee was second with a time of 21.35, also surpassing the venue and meet record.
 
Another meet record was broken to close the afternoon when MSU's 4x400 meter relay squad, consisting of Jaden Howell, Marvin Dure, Junior Pontes Da Veiga and Qai Hussey ran it in 3:16.30.
 
FIELD
Ben Wieser marked second place in shot put with a throw of 16.76m (55-0.00)(28th in Division II). Sheldon McNicholas won the triple jump with after landing at 15.05m (49-4.50).

Friday Recap
 
Senior Jalen McGee won the long jump event after he landed 7.41m (24-3.75) for the Mavericks. Anthony Ward was third at 7.31m (23-11.75)(personal best, 25th in Division II).
 
Junior Oliver Anderson placed second in weight throw with a mark of 18.61m (61-0.75)(personal best, 26th in Division II). Senior Liam Byrne was third at 18.49m (60-8.00).
 
Northern State took the top two positions in pole vault but the Mavericks were third and fourth. Sophomore Blake Wakeling and senior Alex Berg both posted a height of 4.69m (15-4.50).
 
Senior Jacob Ziebarth was the top finisher for MSU in high jump with a fourth place showing of 2.01m (6-7.00).
 
On the track, sophomore Grant Mayers took second place in 1000 meter run with at time of 2:35.07. Senior Ray Ure also crossed the line third in 5000 meter run with a season best time of 15:03.46.
 
Jalen McGee (7.95) and Keaton Wattier (7.99, personal best) finished first and second in 60 meter hurdle prelims. Marvin Dure and Jaden Howell crossed the line sixth and seventh in 400 meter prelims and Maquanet Collins came in seventh in 600 meter prelims.
 
MSU topped the podium in 60 meter dash prelims with Kemarri Stewart first (6.71), Jabez Reeves second (6.73, season best, 18th in Division II) and Richlu Tudee third (6.74, 26th in Division II). Reeves and Tudee, along with Qai Hussey (season best) in third, topped the charts in 200 meter prelims.
 
Kaleb Foltz also finished first in 800 meter prelims with a time of 1:59.14.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
Minnesota State will await official word from the NCAA later next week to see who all qualified for this year's championships in Indianapolis, Ind. (March 13-15, Fall Creek Pavilion).
