DEEPHAVEN, Minn. – Minnesota State junior goaltender
Alex Tracy was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Student-Athlete of the Year by the league office on Wednesday (Feb. 26). Tracy (Chicago, Illinois) holds a 3.94 grade point average in Finance. The award is voted on by the Faculty Athletics Representatives from each member institution.

Given annually, the award is presented to one CCHA student-athlete who performed consistently as a regular member of their CCHA varsity hockey team, displayed outstanding sportsmanship, made satisfactory progress towards a degree, displayed leadership and was active in community service off the ice, encompassing a positive culture of the institution and league.Â

Named to the Dean's List and CCHA Scholar Athlete in each semester in which he has been eligible, he is a two-time AHCA Krampade All-American Scholar, along with Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Tracy is a three-year member of SAAC, for which he has helped produce videos for mental health awareness as well as the Slam Don't Drive Drunk campaign. He assists with the school's All-Sports Camps and Trick or Treat with the Mavericks each year. Helping with the Kiwanis Holiday light event helping to set up display and the Anthony Ford Pond Hockey tournament, he also assists with the YMCA corn roast to raise funds for food pantries, helping at Futures School and works as a guest coach at the Miracle League for six weeks in the Fall.
Along with his teammates, Tracy has spent the past two years working with the Adaptive Floor Hockey team for the Mankato High Schools, practicing with this group at least one a week and attending as many games as their schedule allows, including a road trip to support the team in tournament play.
Tracy coaches aspiring goaltenders at clinics and works in the Athlete-to-Athlete program mentoring three young athletes. He organizes the team Bible Study, participates in "I am Second" group designed to spread the gospel on campus, and leads devotional for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He organizes the groups pickleball games and works at a local church on Wednesday evenings with the AWANA program.

Alex Tracy's outstanding season landed him as a semifinalist for the Mike Richter Award given to the top goaltender in college hockey, as well as a nomination for the Hobey Baker Award, which is given to the top player in collegiate hockey.

Tracy's 1.463 goals against average leads the nation and his .944 save percentage ranks second in Division I.

The Chicago, Illinois native stopped 63 of 64 shots over the weekend for .984 save percentage in a sweep of Lake Superior State. Tracy was named CCHA Goaltender of the Week for the sixth time this year on Monday. He made 32 saves on Friday in a 4-0 shutout. His four shutouts this season leads the CCHA and is tied for third in the nation.

With starts in all 32 games, Tracy has 1,926:32 time on ice (third) and 796 total saves, ninth most in Division I.

Over MSU's five-game win streak, Tracy has allowed only five goals to opponents and made 144 saves for a .966 save percentage. Of his 47 goals allowed this season, only 34 have come at even strength. Tracy was named both CCHA and National Goaltender of the Month for November.

Last year, Michigan Tech goaltender Blake Pietila was the third recipient of the CCHA Student-Athlete of the Year since the conference's return in 2021-22. A year prior, Minnesota State forward Brendan Furry earned the accolade.

The Mavericks (22-8-2, 17-5-2 CCHA) host Bemidji State Friday at 7:07 p.m. CT and Saturday at 6:07 p.m. CT to conclude the regular season.
