Howell and Singleton turn the corner at the Chuck Petersen Open

#8 Men’s Track & Field Wins Maverick Premier #1

MANKATO, Minn. – No. 8 Minnesota State men's track and field assembled 273.5 points as it played host the Maverick Premier #1 at Myers Field House Friday afternoon. MSU finished ahead of Sioux Falls (74) and Concordia-St. Paul (45).

"We are two weeks away from our conference championships and four weeks from nationals," said head coach Mike Turgeon. "This weekend marks the start of the championship phase of our season, where we see our training pay off. Across multiple event groups, our student-athletes delivered lifetime bests in the first of our two Maverick Premier meets. We're looking forward to Saturday's Maverick Premier #2, where we'll close out the meet by chasing national qualifying times in the 4x400m relay."
 
Davian Willems (UW-Oshkosh) and Jabez Reeves (MSU) set meet records in 60 meter dash finals with times of 6.71 and 6.75 respectively. MSU's Kemarri Stewart was third in 6.78 and Richlu Tudee was fourth in 6.81.
 
Reeves set another meet record in 200 meters with a time of 21.41. Tudee was third (21.78) and Stewart was fourth (22.03).
 
Jalen McGee clocked 7.97 in 60 meter hurdle finals for first place, just ahead of Diego Sekiyama-Nava, who ran 8.12, a season best (41st in Division II).
 
Qai Hussey led the Mavericks in the 400 meters with his first place time of 49.42. Jaden Howell crossed second with a personal best 49.46.
 
The Mavericks took the top four spots in the mile run, with Jacob Bennett first (4:19.97), Grant Mayers second (4:24.99), Leif Larsen third (4:26.19) and Maquanet Collins fourth (4:29.14). Adam Bohm posted a personal best in 3000 meters for second place (8:47.23).
 
Michael Meadowcroft led MSU high jumpers in second with a mark of 1.95m (6-4.75). Then Slade Heald put up a meet record in long jump with his first place landing at 7.19m (23-7.25)(42nd in Division II). Logan Moeller was second (6.92m, 22-8.50) and Austin Welsch was third (6.38m, 20-11.25).
 
Blake Wakeling posted the 57th best height in Division II pole vault with a top mark of 4.69m (15-4.50). Alex Berg was second at 4.69m (15-4.50), good for 58th in Division II.
 
Sheldon McNicholas won the triple jump with a mark of 14.98m (49-1.75), just ahead of Jordan Spencer, who posted a season best 14.96m (49-1.00)(19th in Division II).
 
Liam Byrne took second in weight throw with a mark of 18.39m (60-4.00). Bryne his a personal best, which was 25th in Division II. Dylan Gross closed out the afternoon with second place in shot put with a toss of 16.60m (54-5.50).

Minnesota State returns to action Saturday, February 15 at Myers Field House for the Maverick Premier #2.
