Mavericks Shake Up Mark Schuck Open & Multi with Records

MANKATO, Minn. – Records fell at the Mark Schuck Open & Multi Saturday for Minnesota State men's indoor track and field at Myers Field House.
 
The Mavericks faced competition from Southwest Minnesota State, Sioux Falls, Wayne State College, Concordia-St. Paul, Bethany Lutheran, Minnesota Duluth, Gustavus Adolphus, Minnesota Morris, Macalester, North Iowa Area CC, St. Catherine (Minn.), St. Thomas, Omaha, North Central, Viterbo, Augustana, Saint John's, and Marquette.

"What a weekend for MSU Track and Field," said head coach Mike Turgeon. "We hosted a 25-team meet with nearly 900 student-athletes competing. The coaches are very pleased with how our team is coming together as we transition into February and begin peaking our student-athletes for championship season."
 
SATURDAY
TRACK
Senior Jabez Reeves set a facility and meet record with his top 200 meter dash time of 21.68 Saturday. Teammate Richlu Tudee was second after also setting a meet record and a time of 21.82 (season best). Kemarri Stewart helped MSU sweep the podium in the event with a time of 21.95.
 
Grant Mayers led the Mavericks in mile run in sixth place with a personal best time of 4:30.34. Jalen McGee finished first in 60 meter hurdle finals with a time of 7.99. Keaton Wattier took third with a time of 8.10 (28th in Division II).
 
MSU finished first and second in 60 meter dash with Richlu Tudee finishing in 6.77 seconds, followed by Ezekiel Clark in 6.85.
 
Jacob Krugerud placed fifth for the Mavericks in 400 meters with a time of 51.12. Teammate Payton Dean was second in 51.14.
 
Freshman Kaleb Foltz excelled in 600 meters with an impressive first place time of 1:19.75 to set a meet record and facility record.
 
Paul Lins led the team in third in the 1000 meter run with a personal record 2:29.03.
 
FIELD
McGee competed for first place in long jump at a distance of 7.32m (24-00.25).  Slade Heald placed third with a season-best 7.16m (23-6.00) for 43rd in Division II.
 
Senior Aidan Buendorf marked second position in high jump with a season best jump of 2.03m (6-8.00). The mark was 35th best in Division II.
 
Senior Liam Byrne impressed in weight throw, taking first with a mark of 18.28m (59-11.75). The personal best mark was 23rd in Division II. Ben Wieser completed shot put in third place with a mark of 16.22m (53-2.75). 

Junior Braxton Stewart closed out heptathlon competition with a first place score of 5,283 ahead of St. John's Max Lelwica (4,836). 
 
FRIDAY
Jacob Bennett ran a personal best 3000 meter time of 8:43.54 to lead MSU in fourth place in the event. Qai Hussey hit a personal best third place in 300 meters with a time of 35.12 and the men's distance medley relay team of Kaleb Foltz, Chance Swenson, Maquanet Collins and Paul Lins turned in a first place time of 10:19.24 for the Mavericks.
 
In pole vault Collin Windorski and Alex Berg led the Mavericks with top two finishes. Each went to a height of 4.63m (15-02.25). Austin Frank was also tied for third (4.33m, 14-2.50).
 
Minnesota State indoor track & field hosts the Ted Nelson Classic next on Friday, February 7.
