#13 Mavericks Best #4 Rangers to Earn Second NSIC Dual Victory of Season

MANKATO, Minn. --- #13 Minnesota State opened its home schedule Friday evening with a 22-20 dual record over the #4 UW-Parkside Rangers.

MSU now owns a 2-1 dual record, including a 2-1 record in NSIC action. With the loss, UWP drops to 3-1 in dual action, including a 1-1 record in NSIC action.

Six Mavericks came away with victories against the Rangers Friday evening, which included a tech fall and two major decisions.

Sophomore Jacob Fitzpatrick (125 lbs.) started off the dual as he notched a 20-4 tech fall over Dylan Duvernay at 6:03 in the third round. Fitzpatrick notched five takedowns and a four-point nearfall to secure his first tech fall win of the season.

Junior Walker Bents (149 lbs.) and senior Caleb Meunier (157 lbs.) each recorded major decision wins as well. Bents notched a 17-4 win over Troy Dolphin that included five takedowns, while Meunier bested Edwyn Schroeder 11-1 after recorded three takedowns. Bents has now recorded five major decision wins this season, while Meunier has posted three.

Sophomore Colton Hush (141 lbs.), sophomore Paolo Salminen (165 lbs.) and senior Drake Hayward (174 lbs.) each posted decision victories. Hush bested Jordan Craft via a 5-2 decision as he notched the only takedown in their match. Salminen trailed his opponent Nolan Skebba 6-1 early in the first round but a reversal and two nearfalls put him up 10-7 after one round. He would hold the lead the rest of the way as he secured the 15-12 decision. Hayward trailed his opponent Sullivan Ramos 1-0 entering the final round of their match, but an escape and a takedown with 20 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as Hayward came away with the 4-1 decision.

Minnesota State wraps up the 2025 calendar year on Saturday, Dec. 20, as it travels to Golden, Colo., to compete in the John Hancock Duals. MSU will take on Belmont Abbey (12:00 p.m. CST), Central Missouri (1:30 p.m. CST) and #25 Colorado School of Mines (3:00 p.m. CST)
