Wrestling Welcomes #4 Parkside Friday

MANKATO, Minn. – No. 13 ranked Minnesota State wrestling hosts No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Parkside in an NSIC meet on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. CT at Taylor Center. The Mavericks began dual season last weekend on the road.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Mavericks defeated Sioux Falls 32-5 at Stewart Center before falling to No. 11 Augustana 23-14 at Elmen Center on Saturday, a day later. Junior Chase Beckett helped the Mavericks with a pair of wins on the weekend at 133. Beckett defeated Brandon Board (Augustana) by major decision 11-3 on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Jacob Fitzpatrick won by decision 10-8 over AUGIE's Christian Olsen. He now has 15 wins on the season, including nine by decision. Caleb Meunier posted a major decision at 157 pounds over Augustana's Kyle Boeke 14-3. Sophomore Paolo Salminen also collected a win by decision 2-1 to end the night at 165 pounds.
 
Head coach Jim Makovsky is in his 33rd season at the helm. He holds a 314-146-3 record at Minnesota State. The Mavericks finished 8-5 last season, including 5-4 in the NSIC and 4-1 away from home.
 
SCOUTING PARKSIDE
Last seasons, the Mavericks fell 32-4 to Parkside at Taylor Center. The Rangers were ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II at the time (Jan. 30, 2025). Drake Hayward won at 174 pounds for MSU with a major decision over Crosby Schlosser 21-4.
 
The Rangers are 3-0 in dual action so far this season, including a 1-0 mark in NSIC competition. This past week, the Rangers are coming off a 44-0 dual win against SMSU, along with four individual champions at the Jim Koch Wrestling Open: Elon Rodriguez, Jalen Spuhler, Easton Worachek, and Dajun Johnson.

Six Rangers appear in the latest NWCA individual rankings. At 125 pounds, Shane Corrigan holds the No. 2 spot, while Jalen Spuhler ranks No. 3 at 149. Brody Hemauer is No. 4 at 165 pounds, and Dajun Johnson sits at No. 11 at 174. The rankings continue with Brady Schuh at No. 7 in the 184-pound class and Jordan Blanchard slotted at No. 13 at 197.
 
The Rangers will also be in action this weekend at the 46th Annual Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, competing on both Saturday and Sunday.
