MANKATO, Minn – Eight former Minnesota State women's hockey players sign with PWHL. Three of MSU's most recent 2025 class have contracts including Sydney Langseth (Seattle Torrent) and Claire Vekich (Montreal Victoire) who are reserve players and Jessie McPherson singing a two-year deal with Toronto.
Other former Mavericks include Abbey Levy (Boston Fleet), Claire Butorac (Minnesota Frost), Brooke Bryant (Seattle Torrent), Anna Wilgren (Seattle Torrent), and Jessica Kondas (Toronto Sceptres).
Bryant (Linden, California) played at MSU from 2018-2023. She appeared in 161 games for the Mavericks and collected 30 goals and 36 assists for 66 points. After MSU she won a Walter Cup with PWHL Minnesota in 2024. She appeared in 22 gamed and scored one goal. Bryant won a second Walter Cup with the Minnesota Frost in 2025, scoring one goal and collecting three assists.
Butorac (Andover, Minnesota) played 153 games for the Mavericks from 2018-23 and scored 21 goals with 35 assists. She appeared in 21 games for the Minnesota Frost in 2023-24 and tallied one goal and two assists for three points, en route to the Walter Cup Championship. Last season, she played 29 games for the Frost with five points and claimed a second Walter Cup trophy.
Kondas (Calgary, Alberta) skated in 154 games as a Maverick and recorded 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points. She left the Mavericks third all-time in blocked shots (248) and posted a career-high 19 points as a fifth-year player. She was awarded the Daniel Mundahl Service Award and was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team. She made her PWHL debut for the Toronto Sceptres on Dec. 27, 2024, and scored a goal. It was her only appearance during the 2024-25 season.
Langseth (Eden Prairie, Minnesota) played at MSU from 2020-2025. She earned All-American Scholar, WCHA All-Academic and WCHA Scholar Athlete as a senior. She was named captain of the Mavericks. In her time at MSU, she appeared in 162 games (second all-time), scored 36 goals (sixth all-time), and had 54 assists for 90 points. Langseth finished her collegiate career sixth on the MSU all-time scoring chart. This will be her first year as a reserve player.
Levy (Congers, New York) appeared in 56 games for the Mavericks (2018-2020). She recorded a .917 save percentage and 2.58 goals against average. She appeared in 10 games for the New York Sirens and recorded an .899 save percentage and 3.19 goals against average over the past two seasons.
McPherson (Chatham, Ontario) played at MSU from 2024-2025 and earned Krampade All-American Scholar as a graduate student. She played in 15 games for the Mavericks, including nine starts. McPherson held a 3.06 goals against average and an .895 save percentage with a 3-5-1 record and recorded 214 total saves. Before coming to MSU, McPherson played for Vermont for four years. She has signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Sceptres.
Vekich (Coleraine, Minnesota) played at MSU from 2023-2025. Vekich played in 75 games for the Mavericks with 23 goals, 17 assists for 40 points. She was named WCHA All-Academic Team and WCHA Scholar- Athlete as a senior. She scored in four of the final five games of the season, including two goals in the three-game WCHA quarterfinal series. She played for Bemidji State her first two seasons. This will be her first year as a reserve player.
Wilgren (Hudson, Wisconsin) played in 91 games for the Mavericks from 2018-2023. She collected 12 goals and 30 assists for 42 points. Wilgren played for the Montreal Victorie in 2024-25. She appeared in 30 games and accumulated three goals and six assists for nine points. Wilgren made the 2025 PWHL All-Rookie Team.
Minnesota State travels to Minnesota this afternoon for the opening game of a home-and-home series. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
