Mavericks Battle in 7–3 Road Loss

COLUMBUS, Ohio —Minnesota State battled through a challenging matchup on the road, ultimately falling 7–3 to Ohio State despite a strong push in the final frame. The Mavericks continued to generate opportunities throughout the night and broke through with a pair of third-period goals to build momentum late. MSU showed resilience against a 42-shot barrage and continued to compete to the final whistle. 

Minnesota State opened the first period with an aggressive approach, winning multiple faceoffs and taking early shots on goal. Despite these efforts, Ohio State secured the initial lead at the 17:34 mark with a goal by Joy Dunne. Minnesota State responded effectively when Makayla Moran equalized the score at 9:51, with assists from Lauren Zawoyski and Ava Guillemette. The momentum shifted back to Ohio State shortly after, as they regained the lead with a goal by Sara Swiderski at 9:14. The Mavericks' defensive efforts included several blocked shots and successful penalty kills, but Ohio State maintained a 2-1 advantage at the end of the period.

Ohio State increased their lead early in the second period with goals from Emma Peschel and Jocelyn Amos, both coming in a span of just over 30 seconds. Minnesota State faced sustained pressure but managed to block multiple attempts, including key stops from Sophie Stramel and Lauren Goldsworthy during a penalty kill. Despite the defensive effort, Maxine Cimoroni added another goal for Ohio State midway through the period. Minnesota State generated late-period chances with shots from Lauren Zawoyski, Mika Cichosz, and Ava Guillemette, but they were unable to break through Hailey MacLeod's goaltending. The period concluded with Minnesota State trailing 5-1.

Minnesota State initiated a strong push at the start of the third period, with Kamryn Van Batavia scoring an even-strength goal at 19:18, assisted by Ayla Puppe. This was quickly followed by Lauren Zawoyski's goal at 18:35, assisted by Whitney Tuttle and Mercury Bischoff, narrowing the deficit to two goals. Ohio State responded by calling a timeout to regroup. Despite the early momentum from Minnesota State, Ohio State extended their lead with a goal by Jordan Baxter at 9:33. Minnesota State continued to create opportunities, including a power play, but could not convert. Ohio State's Sloane Matthews added another goal at 4:33. The period concluded with Ohio State leading 7–3.

Kamryn Van Batavia scored a goal and registered two shots. Lauren Zawoyski contributed with both a goal and an assist, tallying two points. Makayla Moran added to the scoreboard with a goal from three shots. Hailey Hansen made 35 saves despite conceding seven goals.

The Mavericks are back in action for a home and home series as they face No. 2 Minnesota next weekend.
