Maverick Women’s Hockey Hosts Elementary School Day

10/3/2025 9:43:00 AM

MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State women's hockey team is excited to announce that its October 10 game will be Elementary School Day. The Mavericks are inviting students from local schools to attend and cheer on the team. MSU hosts the University of St. Thomas in a WCHA clash at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center at noon.

This marks the first time MSU has hosted an Elementary School Day, highlighting the growing partnership between Minnesota State Athletics and Mankato Area Public Schools.

"We are excited to have Elementary Day as we open WCHA play in October," said head coach Shari Dickerman. "It will be a great atmosphere for our team to play in, and we are hopeful that we will expose more youth in the area to the great product that Minnesota State Women's Hockey provides. It is fast-paced and physical and we know there are plenty of young hockey fans who have never seen a women's game. We think the kids will enjoy it and hopefully be begging their parents to bring them to another women's hockey game soon."

"MAPS students are excited to be part of Elementary School Day, and we are grateful to Minnesota State Athletics for creating this opportunity. Experiences like this build lasting memories for our young learners and strengthen the bond between our schools and the broader Mankato community."

The Mavericks expect around 1,500 local students to attend, promising a fun, lively atmosphere for players, coaches and fans alike.

Minnesota State (2-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) hosts Lindenwood on Friday and Saturday after sweeping RPI in Troy, New York last week.
