MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State faced No. 2 UW-Parkside Thursday night in the Taylor Center, resulting in a 32-4 conference loss.
 
The night started at 125-lb., with UW-Parkside first on the board with a major decision win, starting the team score at 4-0 UWP.
 
R-So. Chase Beckett wrestled at 133-lb. for the Mavericks, facing UW-Parkside's No. 5 Matthew Chi. Beckett found the first takedown against Chi to go up 3-0 early in the first. After an escape from Chi in the first and a reversal, the match was tied 3-3 going into the third period. Late in the third, Chi gained a takedown, finishing the match in a 7-4 decision for UWP.
 
At 141-lb., freshman Colton Hush faced No. 1 Cayden Henschel, ending in an 11-4 decision win for Henschel.
 
The first ranked matchup of the night started at 149-lb. with redshirt-sophomore No. 14 Walker Bents and UWP's No. 11 Easton Worachek. Bents had the first takedown, followed by a reversal by Worachek, and quickly another reversal by Bents. Worachek then quickly found an escape to take the score to 5-3 with Bents leading. In the second period, Worachek got a reversal in the first 30 seconds, followed closely with an escape by Bents. Worachek was able to score a 4-pt nearfall in the third and gain riding time to win by a 10-5 decision, taking the team score to 14-0 UWP.
 
In the 157-lb. match with MSU's junior Caleb Meunier and UWP's No. 7 Ben Durocher, the first period ended with a late takedown by Durocher to lead 3-0 going into the second. After an escape and takedown for Durocher in the second, Durocher won by a 7-1 decision.
 
The next ranked matchup of the night featured MSU junior No. 15 Kole Marko and UWP No. 9 Dajun Johnson, starting with a takedown by Johnson in the first and quick escape by Marko. In the second, Marko chose down and quickly found the escape, bringing the score 6-2 with Johnson leading. Johnson chose down to start the final period, gaining an escape, followed by a takedown. With riding time, Johnson won by an 11-2 major decision.
 
At 174-lb., redshirt-junior No. 6 Drake Hayward was a dominate force against UWP's Crosby Schlosser. After three takedowns in the first and no scoring in the second, Hayward found an escape in the first five seconds of the third. After two more takedowns, Hayward would win by a 17-4 major decision.
 
R-Fr. Evan Farley was up against Parkside's No. 3 Reece Worachek at 184-lb. and found the first takedown of the match 30 seconds in. After an escape 10 seconds later, Worachek gained a takedown. An escape by Farley finished the first period tied 4-4. After escapes from both wrestlers, Farley found the takedown at 5:35 in the third period to lead 8-5. Worachek escaped, and with one second left in the match, scored a takedown to win by a 9-8 decision.
 
The Rangers won by tech fall at 197-lbs., bringing the team score to 29-4 UWP.
 
Freshman Callen Smithpeter wrestled at the heavyweight class against UWP's No. 7 Lloyd Reynolds. After no scoring in the first, Reynolds chose down to start the second and found a quick escape. Another low scoring period brought the match to the final period with Smithpeter choosing neutral. The match ended with another no scoring period, with Reynolds winning by a 1-0 decision, finishing the dual with a 32-4 team score for the Rangers.
 
The Mavericks turn around tomorrow and travel to Southwest Minnesota State to face the Mustangs for another conference dual.
