IOWA CITY, Iowa. – Minnesota State men's indoor track and field completed competition at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday (hosted by University of Iowa).
Senior
Jalen McGee continued his strong start to indoor season with a second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles premier with a time of 7.81 (second in Division II), behind only Iowa's Kai Graves-Blanks (7.78). McGee is one-hundredth of a second behind Everett Delate's (Colorado School of Mines) top Division II time of 7.80.
Senior
Jabez Reeves impressed in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 6.73 (11
th in Division II), ahead of a pair of Illinois State sprinters as well as teammates
Kemarri Stewart (6.82) and
Richlu Tudee (6.83) inside the Iowa Indoor Track Building.
Senior
Junior Pontes Da Veiga was the Mavericks top finisher in the 200 meter dash finals with a fourth place showing at 22.59. In middle distance, sophomore
Paul Lins crossed the line first in 800 meter run finals with a time of 1:53.96.
Seniors
Marvin Dure and Pontes Da Veiga along with juniors
Jaden Howell and
Qai Hussey teamed to finish fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:16.07 (23
rd in Division II).
"Solid efforts across the board, but
Jalen McGee stole the show for athlete of the meet," said Associate Head Men's & Women's Track and Field Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Chris Parno. "Winning the long jump in a season-best jump of 7.44m on day one and blazing a new personal best in the 60m hurdles was impressive. He is currently sitting No. 2 in DII and is the second fastest hurdler in school history behind only school record holder Myles Hunter."
In the field,
Aiden Buendorf placed fourth behind three Division I athletes with a mark of 1.90m (6-2.75) in high jump.
Collin Windorski represented MSU in sixth for pole vault (4.75m, 15-7.00) and McGee took first in long jump with at a distance of 7.44m (24-5.00), just behind his mark of 7.49m at the Bearson/Gathje Invite.
Sophomore
Sheldon McNicholas impressed in triple jump with a top mark of 14.88m (48-10.00) ahead of teammate and senior
Jordan Spencer (14.79m, 48-6.25). McNicholas's mark of 15.20m at the Chuck Petersen Open still stands fourth in Division II.
Junior
Ben Wieser took 12
th in shot put with a mark of 15.62m (51-3.00) while
Liam Byrne polished off sixth position in weight throw (18.23m, 59-9.75), which places him 23
rd in Division II.
The Mavericks return home to host the Mark Schuck Open & Multi Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Myers Field House in Mankato.
