BURNSVILLE, Minn. --- Four Minnesota State tennis players garnered NSIC accolades for their efforts on the court this past season.
Junior
Freia Lawrence earned All-NSIC First Team – Singles honors, while junior
Avery Stilwell received All-NSIC Second Team – Singles honors. The duo of Lawrence and Stilwell gathered All-NSIC First Team – Doubles honors, while the team of junior
Elizabeth Felderman and sophomore
McKenna DeMarce claimed All-NSIC Second Team doubles accolades. Felderman also claimed All-NSIC Second Team – Singles honors as well.
A junior from Mallorca, Spain,
Freia Lawrence put together a 10-4 singles record, which included 5-2 records in both No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches. In her last five matches of the season, Lawrence went 3-0 in No. 1 singles action, including a 6-0, 6-1 win over UMary's Chole Chong in the semifinals of the NSIC Tournament. This is the second time that Lawrence has earned All-NSIC First Team – Singles honors, with the previous time coming during the 2022-23 season.
A junior from Litchfield, Minn.,
Avery Stilwell put together a 9-5 singles record, including a 6-2 NSIC record. Ten of her matches came in No. 3 singles matches where she put together a 6-4 record. In her last nine matches of the season, Stilwell posted a 5-2 record including four wins in straight sets. This is the second time Stilwell has earned All-NSIC Second Team – Singles honors, having previously received it last season.
Both Lawrence and Stilwell garnered their second All-NSIC First Team – Doubles honors of their careers. This season, Lawrence and Stilwell put together a 7-3 record in No. 1 doubles matches, including a 4-0 record in NSIC competition. The duo won their No. 1 doubles matches vs. MSU Moorhead and UMary in the first two rounds of the NSIC Tournament by the scores of 6-0 and 6-1, respectively.
The duo of
Elizabeth Felderman (Mandan, N.D.) and
McKenna DeMarce (Las Vegas, Nev.) went 12-6 as a team in doubles matches this season, including a 9-6 record in No. 3 matches and a 3-0 record in No. 2 matches. They won four of their final five doubles matches of the season, including a pair of 6-0 wins over MSU Moorhead and UMary in the first two rounds of the NSIC Tournament.
Felderman also claimed All-NSIC Second Team – Singles honors. She finished her season with an 11-6 record in singles competition, including a 7-1 record in NSIC matches. She won four of her final five singles matches of the season, including a pair of wins in the NSIC Tournament. Felderman bested MSU Moorhead's Madison Bell 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, before defeating UMary's Emily Needham 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Minnesota State finished its 2023-24 season with an 11-7 record as it advanced to the finals of the NSIC Tournament.
