MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State (22-11, 18-5 NSIC) dominated Saturday's doubleheader against Bemidji State (1-33, 0-24 NSIC) cruising to a pair of victories by finals of 21-0 and 18-1 at BSU Baseball Field. With the pair of victories today, the Mavericks extend their winning streak to seven and have outscored opponents 99-25 since April 5th.
In two seven-inning games, The Mavericks collected runs in 11 of the 14 innings played on Saturday while out-hitting the Beavers 37- 8. Minnesota State saw 16 players register a run and 12 players record an RBI against Beaver pitching.
Highlighting the Mavericks offense were senior
Ryan Friedges, junior
Zach Stroh, and sophomores
Tanner Thompson and
Louis Magers who all scored two or more runs, while also driving home four or more RBI.
As a team, Minnesota State bullied Bemidji State pitching compiling a .451 batting average, .571 on-base percentage, and a .671 slugging percentage in today's doubleheader.
Friedges led the Mavericks at the plate launching a home run and collecting three RBI in each game.
Minnesota State also took advantage of BSU's lack of control walking 13 times while wearing 10 HBPs. As a result, MSU expanded its lead among NSIC opponents in total walks (189) and total HBPs (70) ranking first in each category.
Senior
Ryan Wickman collected two steals in game two of today's doubleheader raising his career total to 50 steals. The Mavericks' center fielder has now surpassed
Zach Danelson (2007-08) to take sole possession of fifth place among MSU All-time steal leaders.
On the mound, The Mavericks created confusion in the batter's box combining for 18 strikeouts. Bemidji State managed only a .163 batting average (8-49) against Minnesota State's pitching staff
Highlighting the MSU pitching staff was sophomore
Louis Magers (3-1) who pitched five innings of scoreless baseball while collecting seven strikeouts on the day.
The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow at noon as they look to complete the sweep against the Beavers at BSU Baseball Field.
