MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State (23-11, 19-5 NSIC) completed the sweep over Bemidji State (1-34, 0-25 NSIC) following its 11-6 victory Sunday afternoon to extend its winning streak to eight games.
Minnesota State took control early scoring runs in each of the first four innings jumping out to a commanding 8-1 lead. After BSU limited the Mavericks' offense in the middle three frames, sophomore
Louis Magers sealed the game on an RBI double to right field in the top of the eighth to give the Mavericks a 10-2 lead. Minnesota State was able to fend off a late BSU rally to hang on 11-6.
Junior
Aidan Byrne registered a career day going 5-5 at the plate while scoring two runs and two RBI paired with a career-high four stolen bases.
Sophomore
Matthew Fleischhacker was responsible for three of Minnesota State's eight walks as he now has accumulated 37 walks on the year. Fleischhacker is now only two free passes away from tying his 2023 season total (39) and four away from overtaking
Rich Austin's (2000) single-season walk record (41).
Sophomore
Cole Ranweiler tallied a career-high four runs after going 1-2 at the plate while working two walks and an HBP.
On the mound, freshman
Sam George dominated Beaver bats pitching four innings of one-run baseball while collecting a career-high eight strikeouts. George threw MSU's first immaculate inning of the season in the bottom second while recording six straight strikeouts to open the game. The Bettendorf, Iowa native peppered the strike zone recording 36 of 43 pitches for strikes.
"Our pitchers did an exceptional job throwing strikes, especially George making his first career start," head coach
Matt Magers stated. "Offensively we produced up and down the lineup, scoring in six different innings. Byrne especially had a great day at the plate and on the bases."
Minnesota State is back in action on Wednesday to face USF in a weekday doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium.
