3/12/2024 6:44:00 PM

GENEVA, Ohio --- Three Minnesota State divers, including freshman Natalie Freeman, junior Sydney Hanson and junior Aspen Warnygora have advanced to the NCAA Championships due to their efforts in the qualification diving meet.

All three will compete in the 3-meter diving event on Thursday (12:00 p.m. trials/4:30 p.m. finals) and the 1-meter diving event on Saturday (12:00 p.m. trials/4:30 p.m. finals).

"The Black Tuesday pre-qual is a tough environment," diving coach Luke Weber said. "We knew it was going to be a long day and a tough competition with 46 women in the meet. Our women battled, we were thrilled with Aspen, Nat, and Sydney advancing. Three divers qualified is the most we've ever had in program history."

If a diver finished in the top-eight of either event they qualify for both events at the NCAA Championships. Divers who finished from 9th-16th are then selected from the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events until the entire field in full.

In the 1-meter diving event Warnygora finished second with a score of 252.35, while Freeman finished eighth with a score of 232.65. Hanson tallied 208.60 points to finish in 25th.

In the 3-meter diving event, Warnygora set the standard for the Mavericks as she finished in fifth place with a score of 242.35. Hanson took 13th place with a score of 214.45 also, while Freeman took 37th with a score of 174.50.

Sophomore Jenna Elizarraras and junior Yasmin Nachmias also competed in the prequalification meet. In the 1-meter diving event, Nachmias finished 21st with a score of 214.95, while Elizarraras took 39th with a score of 185.35. Elizarraras took 32nd in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 181.15, while Nachmias finished 45th with a score of 151.30.

Minnesota State will compete in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday at the NCAA Championships.
