Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Mavericks traveled to Sioux Falls this afternoon, Feb. 10
th, to face the No. 14 Vikings, resulting in a 15-28 loss.
The dual started at 125 pounds, with Augustana's No. 2 Jaxson Rohman winning by fall at 2:26 against MSU's freshman
Lucas Ryan. At 133 pounds, redshirt-freshman
Chase Beckett lost by a 13-5 major decision.
Augustana had ranked wrestlers in the next two matches. No. 11 Hunter Burnett, at 141 pounds, faced MSU's
Andrew Weiss, with Burnett winning by 15-0 technical fall in the first period. No. 11 Cael Larson wrestled for AUGIE at 149 pounds, beating sophomore
Isaiah Mlsna, of MSU, by technical fall at 5:36, 20-5. MSU's sophomore
Caleb Meunier was next at 157 pounds, losing by a 7-4 decision, after being taken down late in the third.
At 165 pounds, sophomore
Kole Marko, of MSU, beat the Vikings' Payton Anderson by a 4-1 decision. Shortly after, MSU's
Drake Hayward, at 174 pounds, beat Coy Gunderson, of Augustana, by a close 5-4 decision.
Gavin Christoffersen, an MSU senior at 184 pounds, had the Mavericks only fall of the night, catching AUGIE's Danny Reynolds in the first and getting the pin at 2:43. At 197 pounds, MSU's
Shane Gibson lost by technical fall at 7:00 to Augustana's No. 11 Max Ramberg.
In the final match of the dual, redshirt-freshman
Tanner Gaffey, at 285 pounds for MSU, met Zach Peterson, of Augustana, on the mat, resulting in a 4-0 decision win by Gaffey.
The Mavericks (5-5 overall, 2-4 NSIC) are home next weekend, hosting University of Sioux Falls Feb. 16
th and Northern State on Feb. 17
th. The Mavericks will be recognizing our seniors on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
