MANKATO, Minn. – The Mavericks hosted Upper Iowa for their first home dual of the season, finishing with a 29-9 loss to the Peacocks in the Taylor Center. The dual started at the 184-lb. weight class.
 
After Upper Iowa controlled the beginning of the dual, junior Caleb Meunier, a 157-lb. from Winneconne, Wis., won by an 18-0 tech fall over UIU's Dalton Schams. Meunier gained a takedown two minutes into the first period, giving him a 3-0 lead. After a neutral start to the second period, Meunier quickly found another takedown to double his score. Meunier escaped in the first 20 seconds of the third, and followed with his third takedown of the night, eventually adding a 3pt nearfall to his score. In the final seconds, Meunier found another 4pt nearfall, coupled with one point of riding time, to win by tech fall.
 
Up next was 165-lb. junior Kole Marko from Amery, Wis., winning by 14-5 major decision against Collin Altensey, of UIU. In the first six seconds, Marko found his first takedown against Altensey. After another takedown by Marko, the first period ended with a score of 6-2 MSU.  Marko started the second period with another quick takedown. An escape from Altensey brought the score to 9-4 MSU. After a 1pt escape and 3pt takedown by Marko, Altensey found a 1pt escape to end the match. Marko added one point of riding time to win 14-5. Marko's win brought the team score to 25-9 UIU.

After the 174-lb. match, the dual ended with a final score of 29-9 UIU.
 
Minnesota State travels to Sioux Falls next Friday, Dec. 13^th, to open their conference dual season. The dual against the University of Sioux Falls will begin at 7 p.m.
