MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State junior
Alex Tracy (Chicago, Illinois) was named the Co-National Goaltender of the Month by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) on Thursday (Dec. 5).
The award follows Tracy's selection by the CCHA as Goaltender of the Month. In November,
Alex Tracy made eight starts. He recorded 21 saves in a shutout win over Northern Michigan and held a scorching .955 save percentage over that stretch.
Tracy has been outstanding in net all season for the Maverick men's hockey team. He currently leads the nation in goals against average (1.369) and save percentage (.947). With starts in all 16 games, Tracy holds a 10-4-2 record and has made 395 saves (sixth in Division I) in 964:17 of time on ice.
For comparison, former Minnesota State goaltender Dryden McKay held a 1.31 goals against average and .931 save percentage in 2021-22 and was awarded the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, given to the top player in Division I men's hockey.
Tracy has surrendered 22 goals (13 even strength). He leads the CCHA (and is tied for third in Division I) with three shutouts and averages 24.63 saves per game. Last weekend, Tracy stopped 53 of 56 shots for a .946 save percentage and helped the Mavericks to a road sweep over Michigan Tech.
Tracy is tied for ninth among active goaltenders in Division I with six career shutouts, 18th in career goals against average and 12th in career save percentage. He earned his third CCHA Goaltender of the Week honor on November 25.
Minnesota State (10-4-1, 5-1-2 CCHA) is home to play Bowling Green (5-5-2, 2-2-2) Friday at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday at 6:07 p.m. at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
