MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's swim team won all 14 events in its dual with MSU Moorhead as the Mavericks won by the score of 171-79.
The Mavericks now own a 9-1 record in dual action this season.
"The coaches were very happy with the team's performance this afternoon," head coach
Nathan Owens said. "We had a number of women step up and have some impressive swims and started the meet by setting a new pool record in the 200 Medley Relay. We had great energy today especially from our seniors competing in the last home meet of their careers.
"This was our final competition before the NSIC championships in a few weeks, so it was encouraging to have so many solid performances. We feel really good about were the team is at this point in the season."
In the 200 medley relay event the team of junior
Abby Gronholz, senior
Brooke Shell, senior
Ella DeFever and senior
Olivia Hudoba set the standard with a time of 1:46.10. In the 200 freestyle relay it was the team of Shell, Hudoba, senior
Elise Mishmash and senior
Ainslee Hemmen who finished first with a time of 1:39.60.
Hudoba and sophomore
Alexandra Gorecki would go on to win two individual events each. Hudoba took first in both the 50 freestyle (24.77) and 100 freestyle (53.85), while Gorecki won both the 1,000 freestyle (11:04.93) and the 200 backstroke (2:09.89).
Senior
Roelle op de Haar won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.70, while junior
Sienna Sirek-Kreye finished first in the 500 freestyle event with a time of 5:24.50.
In the breaststroke events it was sophomore
Megan Schultz and Shell who led the way. Shell won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.03, while Schultz posted a time of 2:36.00 in the 200 breaststroke.
The butterfly events would see sophomore
Claudia Schwartz and freshman
Maddy Jagger set the standard, as Schwartz won the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.73, while Jagger won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:14.76.
Junior
Jaedyn Hill took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.51, while Groholz won the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.01.
While the Maverick swimmers hosted MSU Moorhead at Highland Pool, the Minnesota State divers took part in the St. Cloud Diving Invite in St. Cloud, Minn.
In the 1-meter diving event four Mavericks finished in the top-5. Sophomore
Aspen Warnygora took second place with 414.15 points, while junior
Sydney Hanson following in third with 397.6 points. Freshman
Natalie Freeman finished fourth with 391.55 points, with
Yasmin Nachmias following in fifth with 390.45 points.
Both Hanson and Freeman finished in the top-5 in the 3-meter diving event as well. Hanson took second with a score of 407.40, while Freeman finished fourth with 391.45 points.
In total, five Maverick divers including Freeman, Hanson, Nachmias, Warygora and sophomore
Jenna Elizarraras have qualified for the pre-qualification meet for the NCAA Championships on March 12.
The Mavericks divers will take part in the Coyote Invite on Feb. 3 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The team will then compete in the four-day NSIC Championships on Feb. 14 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
