ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Minnesota State faced No. 6 St. Cloud State last night on the road, resulting in a 31-6 loss.
The dual started with two tech fall losses to freshmen Lucas Ryan (125-lb.) and Andrew Weiss (133-lb).
Facing the first ranked wrestler for the Huskies of the night was junior Trayton Anderson, at 141 pounds. In a close fight with No. 12 Alyeus Craig, Anderson won by a 7-6 decision, putting the team race to 10-3 SCSU.
Junior Max Schwabe wrestled at 149 pounds, going against the Huskies No. 8 Colby Njos, losing by a 4-1 decision. St. Cloud's No. 1 ranked wrestler, Nick Novak, wrestled MSU's sophomore Caleb Meunier, at 157 pounds, with Meunier losing by a 10-0 major decision. Sophomore Kole Marko also faced a ranked wrestler at 165 pounds, wrestling No. 7 Anthony Herrera, finishing in a 4-2 decision loss.
At 174 pounds, junior Drake Hayward won in sudden victory against SCSU's Bryce Dagel, with a 4-1 finish.
No. 11 Bryce FitzPatrick for SCSU won by tech fall against MSU's freshman Grant Cook, at 184 pounds, while Shane Gibson, a senior at 197 pounds, lost by a 7-3 decision against No. 3 Dominic Murphy from SCSU.
Finishing the dual was freshman Tanner Gaffey, a freshman at 285 pounds, losing to Elijah Novak by a 5-2 decision, ending the team race at 31-6 Huskies.
The Mavericks (3-3, 0-3 NSIC) continue their road tour on Jan. 25, traveling to MSU Moorhead. The dual will begin at 7 p.m. St. Cloud State (9-1, 4-0 NSIC) hosts Northern State next.
