Mankato, Minn. -  The Mavericks dropped their second NSIC dual tonight to the University of Mary, 24-18. 
 
UMary started the dual with two tech fall wins against MSU's 125-lb. freshman Lucas Ryan and 133-lb. freshman Andrew Weiss. 
 
In like fashion to last night, 141-lb. Trayton Anderson, a junior for MSU, was first to score for the Mavericks with a fall in the first period at 1:56 and bring the team score to 10-6 UMary.
 
Two major decisions wins followed, one by UMary at 149 pounds against Isaiah Mlsna, the second from MSU's Caleb Meunier, a 157-lb. sophomore. Meunier was first to score with an early takedown in the first period, and getting two more takedowns in the third to win 14-5. Sophomore Kole Marko, at 165 pounds, won by tech fall against Mary's Charlie Severance, 22-6. Marko had two quick takedowns in the first and second periods with a 4-point nearfall in the second, finished by two takedowns in the third.
 
Minnesota State junior Drake Hayward, at 174 pounds, faced UMary's #5 Max Bruss. Hayward ended the first in the lead, 3-2, with Bruss coming out on top in the second, 5-3. Bruss went on to win 6-3 with riding time. 
 
In a big upset, senior 184-pounder Gavin Christoffersen beat UMary's #9 Wyatt Lindberg by a 4-1 decision. After a scoreless first period, Christoffersen got a takedown at the end of the second and found an escape during the third to come out on top.
 
UMary's #8 Matt Kaylor won by a 12-2 major decision in the 197-lb. match against senior Shane Gibson. To finish the night, MSU's freshman Tanner Gaffey held his own against UMary's #7 Luke Tweeton, with Tweeton winning by a 2-1 decision after escaping in the second and being awarded a point via riding time at the end of the match.

Minnesota State is back on the mat Jan. 18^th at St. Cloud State.
