MINOT, N.D. – The Mavericks (7-7) defeated the Beavers of Minot State (2-12) in three sets, 3-0, Saturday morning. This is the second 3-0 win for Minnesota State this weekend in North Dakota.
Minnesota State dominated the first set, taking it 25-17. The Beavers were able to keep the second set close but lost the set 25-23. In the final set, the Mavericks were able to close out the match 25-18.
Toryn Richards led the Mavericks in kills with 13. Junior
Kiya Durant had nine kills with a .727 hitting percentage. Defensively, Durant and
Sophie Tietz had two blocks each.
Ellie Kline had 17 digs; a match high.
Brooke Bolwerk had 26 assists and
Makayla Snow recorded 12. Bolwerk also led the Mavericks with three aces. Tietz, Kline and
Elizabeth Dille each had one service ace. Dille also had ten kills.
For Minot State,
Savannah Wilson led the Beavers in kills with eight and hitting percentage, with a rate of .375.
Jaina Macaulay had 23 assists.
Tea Boeckel and
Milena Cernjanski had 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
"I'm happy we notched a couple wins this weekend," said coach
Corey Phelps. "Toryn was very solid today. Our depth as a team shines through when we can have different athletes step up."
The Mavericks return to Mankato to host MSU Moorhead (4-9) and Northern State (11-2) for Homecoming Weekend. Minnesota State matches up against the Dragons on Friday Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. and the Wolves Saturday Oct. 7 at 11 a.m.
