BISMARCK, N.D. – Minnesota State (6-7) defeated the UMary volleyball team (4-8) in three sets, 3-0, Friday night. With the win, the Mavericks earned their first NSIC victory on the season.
The Mavericks won all three sets, winning the first two sets 25-22. Then, Minnesota State came back and finished off the Marauders in the third and final set 26-24.
Senior
Sophie Tietz led the Mavericks offensively, recording 16 kills and two service aces, with a hitting percentage of .414.
Elizabeth Dille had nine kills, and a match-leading 13 digs.
Emily Kern had 2.5 blocks and five kills. Libero
Brooke Bolwerk had 24 assists and six digs.
Allie Gruber had 10 kills to lead the Marauders.
Kameron Selvig had 31 assists and 11 digs. Gruber and
Maddie Gruber each had two blocks. Cooper also had two aces.
Head coach
Corey Phelps was pleased with his team's performance. "Sophie and Dille played very well. We're taking steps in the right direction and making good changes defensively."
The Mavericks return to play tomorrow morning against Minot State (2-11) at the Minot State Dome at 10 a.m.
