Mavericks Fall to Augustana, 3-0

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minnesota State Mavericks (5-7) fell to the Augustana Vikings (4-7), 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Elmen Center in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball.

The Vikings won all three sets, taking the first 25-21. The Mavericks couldn't quite come back in the second set, losing 25-23. Augustana closed out the Mavericks in the third and final set, 25-19.

Senior Sophie Tietz and junior Kiya Durant led the Mavericks in kills. Each recorded seven. Tietz also led the team in hitting percentage at a rate of .467. Durant contributed three blocks on the defensive side and led Minnesota State in points with 9.5. Freshman Avery Rosenberg and Cleveland, Minn. native Toryn Richards both had six kills and a block. Ellie Kline had 13 digs. Elizabeth Dille had two aces. Brooke Bolwerk and Makayla Snow recorded 16 and 13 assists, respectively.

Augustana was led by Kia Kreiner and Callie Hohenhaus, who had 15 and 11 kills, respectively. Lucy Bartee had 36 assists and 3 service aces for the Vikings. Maya Wente had four blocks.

"We have work to do," said Mavericks head coach Corey Phelps. "We're hurting ourselves unnecessarily right now."

The Mavericks are on the road in N.D. next weekend against University of Mary (4-8) Friday September 29 and Minot State (2-10) the following day.
