Mavericks Begin Busy Week in Minnesota

Mankato, Minn. – The Mavericks are traveling to a variety of invitationals and opens the next few days in Minnesota and Iowa.
 
Starting today at the Running on Hope Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., 14 Mavericks found a top 10 mark.
 
In the 100m dash, sophomore Steven Marks placed first with a personal record time of 10.58. Joining him on the podium were teammates junior James Gilbert and freshman Trey Vaval. Gilbert, placing seventh, recorded a personal best (10.87) followed closely by Vaval who placed eighth (10.96).
 
Freshman Owen Petersohn was the lone placer in the 110m hurdles, with a time of 15.61 to earn seventh and record a new personal best. Three Mavericks also placed in the 400m hurdles. Leading the pack was freshman Chance Swenson, taking second in a time of 55.62. Not far behind was Petersohn at 55.72 to earn fourth. Junior Jeremiah Revere placed sixth, finishing at 56.69.
 
To finish the running events, junior Nikolai Schmanski ran a 15:59.25 in the 5000m run and placed second in the event.
 
Looking to the field, sophomore Zachery Shaner finished ninth in the hammer throw with a throw of 48.34 m (158' 7"). Junior Tommy Kucera threw for 15.68 m (51' 5.5") in the shotput to place fifth. Also joining Kucera in the top 10 was junior Sam Moore, throwing for 14.58 m (47' 10") and placing 10th.
 
Tying for second in pole vault was sophomore Jed Hansen with a vault of 4.50 m (14' 9"). Joining Hansen on the podium in fifth was freshman Austin Frank, who vaulted 4.30 m (14' 1.25").
 
In high jump, sophomore Jacob Ziebarth jumped 1.91 m (6' 3.25") which was good for fourth in the event.
 
Freshman Camden Combs led the way in long jump placing fifth with a jump of 6.53 m (21' 5.25"). Also finding the top 10 was junior Takudzwa Mangwiro, jumping for 6.36m (20' 10.5) and placing 10th. Freshman Anthony Borom jumped in the triple jump event, placing fifth with a jump of 13.23m (43' 5").
 
Two Mavericks also traveled to St. Peter, Minn. today to compete in the Gustie Twilight. Freshman Ben Wieser and junior Thomas Spoehr made their marks out in the field.
 
In discus, Wieser threw for 40.39m (132' 6"), placing fifth.
 
Spoehr had a personal best throw in the hammer throw (48.05 m, 157' 7") and placed third in the event.
 
Finishing the day, Wieser took third in shotput with a throw of 14.84m (48' 8.25"), followed by Spoehr throwing 12.87 m (42' 2.75") and taking 10th.
 
MSU continues action tomorrow at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.
