Mavericks Swept 3-0 by No. 1 Ranked Wildcats

WAYNE, Neb. – Minnesota State Volleyball (9-9, 4-6) fell to the Wildcats of Wayne State (19-1, 10-0) Saturday afternoon in a clean sweep, 3-0. Wayne State is the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.

The Wildcats were dominant on their home court, winning the first two sets 25-13. Wayne State controlled the final set, finishing out the match 25-9.

Emma Loveall led the Mavericks offensively, recording 10 kills. Sophie Tietz had five kills and a block. Emily Kern also had one block. Brooke Bolwerk assisted on 16 of the Maverick's points.

For the Wildcats, Kelsie Cada had 13 kills, two aces and three assists. Maggie Brahmer had four blocks: a match high. Rachel Walker recorded 27 assists for Wayne State. Beller Taya had three blocks and nine kills. Jordan McCormick recorded 12 digs.

"They showed us why they were the number one team in the country today," said Mavericks head coach, Corey Phelps.

Minnesota State is back on the road next week, traveling to Duluth to take on the No. 12 Bulldogs (13-5, 6-4) on Friday Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. and then to St. Cloud to take on the No. 8 Huskies (14-6, 7-4) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
