Moorhead, Minn. -  The Mavericks raced to a 20-0 lead Saturday afternoon and never looked back as it downed MSU Moorhead, 30-9 in a NSIC dual.
 
Freshman Kole Marko opened the dual with a 6-4 win at 165 lb., before junior Mike Smith and senior Brody Nielsen recorded back-to-back major decisions at 174 and 181 pounds respectively. 
 
At 195 lb., senior Dylan Butts received a forfeit, giving the Mavericks a wide 17-0 lead over the Dragons before senior Darrell Mason picked up a 4-1 decision at 285 pounds.
 
MSU Moorhead picked up a win by forfeit at 125 before earning a 9-7 sudden victory decision at 133 pounds to cut the Maverick lead to 20-9. 
 
Senior Brock Luthens earned MSU's third bonus point victory of the night as he won by major decision at 141 pounds. Freshman Caleb Meunier, continued to add to the Maverick lead by a 8-2 decision win over Jacob Davis, of MSU Moorhead. Sophomore Drake Hayward sealed the Maverick win with a 9-7 victory at 157 pounds.
 
The Mavericks (5-3, 2-3 NSIC) are back at home on Feb. 2, 2023, in the Taylor Center against Minot State.  The dual will begin at 5:30 p.m.
