ALLENDALE, Mich. --- The Minnesota State Women's track and field team competed in day two of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Grand Valley State. Three Mavericks earned All-American honors in three events this afternoon.
In the triple jump, sophomore Flore Gracia finished 10th in the event with a leap of 40' 1.25'' (12.22m). With this performance by Gracia, she earned 2nd Team All-American honors in the event. This is the second time in her career that she has earned All-American status in the triple jump. Freshman Stella Neophytou finished 16th in the event with a distance of 38' 11'' (11.86m).
Senior Katie Taylor took home a sixth-place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 157' 3'' (47.92m). With her performance in the event Taylor received 1st Team All-American honors for the second time in her career in the discus throw.
In the 200m dash prelim, two Mavericks qualified for the finals tomorrow evening. Denisha Cartwright finished third in the event, first in her heat, with a time of 23.56. Makayla Jackson also qualified with a fifth-place finish, second in her heat, with a mark of 23.70. Rose Cramer finished 22nd in the event with a time of 24.57. Cartwright and Jackson will compete for a national championship in the 200m dash tomorrow with the event beginning at 3:50 p.m.
In the 100m hurdles prelim, Cartwright earned a spot to compete for a national championship in the event with a top qualifying mark of 13.40. Cartwright will have a chance to earn a national championship with event final beginning at 1:55 p.m.
Junior Amanda Montplaisir finished ninth in the 3000m steeplechase finals with a time of 10:33.28. With this performance Montplaisir earned 2nd Team All-American honors in the event. This is the first time she has earned All-American status in her career in the event.
The Mavericks will compete in five events on championship Saturday including the shot put, 4x100m relay, 100m hurdles, 100m dash and the 200m dash with the first event beginning at 10:15 a.m.
