ALLENDALE, Mich. --- The Minnesota State Women's track and field team took part in day one of competition at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Three Mavericks earned All-American honors in two events to begin the weekend.
Senior Brea Perron earned Second Team All-American honors with a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw. Perron recorded a mark of 180' 3'' (54.94m) in the event. Senior Kaylee Jensen finished 17th in the event with a toss of 169' 6'' (51.66m).
In the preliminary round of the 4x100m relay Minnesota State finished second with a qualifying time of 44.47. The team consists of Denisha Cartwright, Ja'Cey Simmons, Rose Cramer, and Makayla Jackson. They will compete for a national championship in the event final on Saturday at 1:10 p.m.
In the long jump, sophomore Makayla Jackson finished third in the event earning First Team All-American honors with a leap of 20' 4.5'' (6.21m). This is the second time Jackson has earned All-American honors in the event. Freshman Kary Petricka finished sixth in the event with a distance of 19' 8.75'' (6.01m). Petricka also earned First Team All-American honors for her performance.
The preliminary round of the 100m dash saw two Mavericks qualify for the finals on Saturday at 2:35 p.m., Makayla Jackson finished first with a time of 11.40 and Denisha Cartwright qualified with a fourth-place finish recording a time of 11.46 in her efforts.
In the preliminary round of the 3000m steeple chase, junior Amanda Montplaisir finished second with a qualifying time of 10:25.64. Montplaisir will compete for a national championship in the event tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
The Mavericks return to action tomorrow for day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning with the triple jump starting at 3:45 p.m
