#24 Mavericks Hold Fourth Spot After Day 2 of NSIC Outdoor Championships

Three Mavericks Earn All-NSIC Honors

ABERDEEN, S.D.---- The Minnesota State men's track and field team traveled to the campus of Northern State University to take part in the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. After seven scored events the Mavericks hold the fourth spot heading into the final day of competition with 40 points as a team.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Ray Ure finished third earning All-NSIC honors with a time of 9:30.82.

Slade Heald finished second in the long jump earning All-NSIC recognition with a mark of 24' 4.24'' (7.42m). Currently, this performance has him ranked 20th in D2.

The shot put saw Steven Orzolek take home the victory with a heave of 58' 6.50'' (17.84m). This performance earns Orzolek All-NSIC status, and he is currently in the 14th spot in division II.

Tanner Maier finished sixth in the 1500m run prelim with a time 4:02.49 and qualified for the finals tomorrow in the last day of the outdoor championships.

Two Mavericks qualified for the finals of the 110m hurdles with Nick Durnin finishing second with a time of 14.56 and Justus Adams finishing seventh with a time of 15.21. Durnin currently ranks 31st in division II.

Max DePrenger qualified for the finals in the 400m dash with a time of 49.07 and a fourth-place finish.

Six of the eight qualifiers for the 100m dash were Mavericks. Shaheed Hickman, Daniel Attoh, Prince Nti, Steven Marks, Nicholas Sharma, and Ezekiel Clark all qualified for the finals tomorrow. Clark and Hickman rank 40th and 56th in division II in the event.

Ben Schmied and Tanner Maier finished second and third in the 800m run prelim with times of 1:54.09 and 1:56.56, respectively. Maier is fifth in division II in the event.

Three Mavericks qualified for the 400m hurdles finals tomorrow with Drew Lewison finishing third with a mark of 56.57. Jeremiah Revere and Nick Durnin finished sixth and seventh with times of 57.28 and 55.63, respectively.

Another five Mavericks qualified for the finals of the 200m dash with Kenry Atubel, Carter Nesvold, Josh Phelps, Steven Marks, and Prince Nti making the cut.


Minnesota State returns to action tomorrow in the final day of the NSIC Outdoor Championships with the first field event starting at 9:00 a.m. with pole vault and first running event starting with the 4x100m relay at 1:15 p.m.
