Minnesota State Takes Part in Central Nebraska Challenge & USD Early Bird Meets

Kearney, Neb. --- The Minnesota State men throwers traveled to Kearney, Neb., to take part in the Central Nebraska Challenge hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Sophomore Carter Aguilera finished third in the discuss throw with a heave of 159' 4'' (48.57m). 

In the shot put, Steven Orzolek was the highest finishing Maverick in the event as he finished second with a NCAA provisional mark of 55' 11'' (17.04m) which is currently 14th in the country. Sophomore Tommy Kucera finished third in the event with a throw of 52' 11'' (16.13m). Bedale Naba and Aguilera finished in the top-10 with tosses of 49' 5.75'' (15.08m) and 46' 8.75'' (14.24m), respectively.

In the hammer throw, junior Nicholas Hudson finished 10th with a throw of 167' 5'' (51.04m). 

Tanner Maier finished second in the 800m run with a NCAA provisional mark of 1:49.57 which is fourth best in the country.

Vermillion, S.D. --- The Minnesota State men's field athletes traveled to Vermillion, S.D., to take part in the USD Early Bird Meet hosted by the University of South Dakota.

In the 4x100m relay, the Mavericks team that consisted of Caleb Kath, Prince Nti, Nicholas Sharma, and Shaheed Hickman finished in the runner up position with a NCAA provisional mark of 40.64 which is currently sixth in the country.

In the 4x400m relay, Minnesota State finished third with a team of Kenry Atubel, Carter Nesvold, Max DePrenger, and Drew Lewison with a time of 3:19.03.

In the 110m Hurdles, Minnesota State saw two athletes finish in the top-three. Junior Abel Christiansen finished second with a NCAA provisional mark of 14.29. Junior Nick Durnin finished third in the event also with a NCAA provisional mark of 14.47. Christiansen followed up his performance with a fifth place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.12.

Junior Shaheed Hickman went on to finish fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 10.75. Max DePrenger and Kenry Autbel finished seventh and ninth in the 400m dash with times of 49.47 and 49.67, respectively.

Carson Dittel took home the top spot in the pole vault with a NCAA provisional mark of 16' 7.75'' (5.07m) which is currently ninth in the country. Caleb Kath finished third in the long jump with a leap of 23' 6'' (7.16m). Deveyonn Brown finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 6' 7.25'' (2.01m).

Onyi Ukaobasi took home the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 47' 11.75'' (14.62m).

The Mavericks return to action April 8-9 as they host the Minnesota State Open & Multi inside Myers Field House in Mankato, Minn.
