Mankato, Minn. --- The NCAA announced today that Minnesota State (35-5-0) has been selected as the #1 seed at the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Regional in Albany, N.Y., and will face fourth-seeded Harvard (21-10-3).
The Albany Regional is slated for next Thursday and Saturday.
The other two teams in the regional include #2 regional seed North Dakota (24-13-1) vs. the third seed, Notre Dame (27-11-0). First-round winner winners will meet in the Regional Final Saturday with the regional champion advancing to the NCAA DI Men's Hockey Frozen Four in Boston, Mass., April 8 and 10.
Minnesota State, the recipient of the 2022 MacNaughton Cup as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season champion, and the Mason Cup as the CCHA postseason tournament champs, will making its eightth NCAA tournament appearance this year. The Mavericks also played in the 2003 East Regional in Providence, R.I., the 2013 Midwest Regional in Toledo, Ohio, the 2014 Northeast Regional in Worcester, Mass., the 2015 Midwest Regional in South Bend, Ind., the 2018 West Regional in Sioux Falls, S.D., the 2019 East Regional in Providence, R.I., and the 2021 West Regional in Loveland, Colo.
The Mavericks won the 2021 West Regional and made their first NCAA DI Men's Hockey Frozen Four appearance, which was played last spring in Pittsburgh, Pa.
