Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's track and field team entered day two of the Mark Schuck Open and Multi holding the top spot. The Mavericks had a successful day as they maintained the top spot and took home the first-place finish in the meet.
In the 60m dash, senior
Shaheed Hickman finished first with a time of 6.76 seconds. Then, in the 300m dash the Mavericks took the top three spots with sophomore
Max DePrenger claiming victory with a time of 35.73 seconds.
Minnesota State was victorious in both the 400m and 800m dash. Senior
Kornelius Klah took home the top spot in the 400m dash with a time of 49.83 seconds. Then in the 800m dash sophomore
Tanner Maier finished first with a time of 1:54.04.
The 60m hurdles saw Klah claim his second first-place finish of the day with a time of 7.98 seconds.
In the 4 x 200m relay, the Mavericks won the event with a time of 1:30.36. The team was made up of
Prince Nti,
Josh Phelps,
Ezekiel Clark and
Eddie Blackwell.
In the pole vault, the Mavericks took home the top three spots in th event. Sophomore
Carson Dittel was victorious with a vault height of 4.75m (15' 7'').
Freshman
Aiden Buendorf finished second in the high jump with a height of 2.03m (6' 8''). Then, in the long jump freshman
Slade Heald took the second spot for the Mavericks with a distance of 6.88m (22' 7'').
Minnesota State finished first in both the shot put and weight throw.
Steven Orzolek won the shot put with a throw distance of 16.78m (55' 0.75''). In the weight throw, sophomore
Carter Aguilera was victorious with a throw of 18.72m (61' 5'').
The Mavericks were victorious in the heptathlon as senior
Nick Durnin took home the first-place finish with 4,544 points. Durnin was tops in four events including the 60m dash, 60m hurdles, long jump and shot put.
Tyler Denes finished third in the heptathlon winning the pole vault and finishing second in both the 60m dash and long jump.
Minnesota State returns to competition Saturday, Feb. 5 as they host the Ted Nelson Classic in Myers Field House.
